Guidance Dialogue

The EU-funded project "Guidance Dialogue - Better Education and Career Opportunities Through Counselling” (February 1st 2011 to January 31st 2013) aims to inspire European unionists for their national reform debates on vocational and advanced vocational training consultancy.

The project partners are looking to develop a set of guidelines towards a subject-oriented, provider-independent, culture- and gender-sensitive vocational and advanced vocational training consultancy for the participating countries. With other words, the aim is to develop a comprehensive counselling programme for all people, regardless of social and economic standing, cultural background or gender. Another objective is to give a prospect of future strategies for the vocational and advanced vocational training consultancy. To this end, a structured dialogue on educational guidance is opened in the participating countries, headed by key figures from politics, administration, science, as well as the unions and trade union federations. This dialogue is meant to raise the awareness of key figures, make them exchange their experiences and initiate a deep learning process in those who act in the field.

The project comprises three expert workshops in Heidelberg, Salzburg and Krakow, each of which is attended by the project partners and three experts (e.g. from the circle of associated partners). In addition, three international conferences will be held in Weimar (on subject-oriented and provider-independent vocational and advanced vocational training consultancy), Vienna (on in-house counselling), and Warsaw (on implementation strategies for advanced vocational training consultancy).

Participants of these EU-conferences shall discuss the concepts presented in three accompanying handouts on the respective conference subjects, which are compiled beforehand and will afterwards be published in three languages (German, Polish and English). Another (fourth) paper will be composed providing recommendations for how best to implement European instruments in the respective national strategies for educational guidance.
